I am interested in knowing what it takes to jump from the big 4 to tech companies like fb and amazon! I'm in cyber security right now and want to stay within that field but shift industries! Any suggestions?
All of these companies have security teams focusing on different aspects of security. Amazon has risk and vulnerability management teams which do consultation work for other teams developing applications. Work is nice and challenging enough. Clearing your tech basics and having the right mindset (hacker not a script kitty) will help you land the job.
Thanks for the advice! When you say tech basics..do we need to know how to carry out ethical hacking( pen testing etc) or more basic than that?
Yes pentesting is important but I don't really see any one deep diving into pentesting during an interview. Networking and scripting basics on the other hand are pretty common. Except some os security questions too(both Linux and windows). A few teams I know work on analytics part. They focus on machine learning and other things that comes with it. So basically it will depend on the role you interview for. But just pen testing won't be enough prepare for networking and scripting. And be prepared with some kind of poc you might have done. Security engineers here are supposed to make POCs, which then a team of developers will build at 'Amazon scale'. So be prepared for python too.
Glad I could help
I would look at the Industrial Controls Security side. All big Four are looking at this HEAVILY.
Hey I’ve been in Industrial Controls for 8 years and trying to pivot to security. Any suggestions for how to make the transition in a way that will appeal to the big four?
Are there any certifications to get in Industrial Control Security?
Just curious, what are your specializations? How did you gain knowledge in this field?
I specialize in risk and vulnerability management for applications. I mostly gained knowledge through work and taking classes.
Medallia is hiring for this role, they love consultants
