Hi, I have a fairly decent TC but I live a very cheap lifestyle. Sometimes it seems my peers judge me for having a tiny apartment or a lousy car despite the fact that they know my TC is about the same as theirs. I've usually just ignored them. What's a good way to handle this other than that? TC: 375 Why I live cheap: Mostly, because I really don't feel I need this stuff. I instead spend a lot of my money on some schooling for kids in my village. It's not for altruistic reasons or anything, it's because I enjoy it and it makes me look cool over there and if some kids get a good future while I look cool that's a win-win. But I don't want to disclose this to any of my peers or people here in the US so please don't suggest that. Besides, Yolo you know, so why not spend it like that :D
Hey it’s me ur brother
Being minimalistic is fine. Being a slob isn't. Dress sharp.
Dress whatever maximizes your own utility. Steve Jobs wore the same damn turtle neck every day as that maximized his own utility. And nobody gave a shit
But he was Steve jobs.. I know what you mean twitch, but I feel like we should have a balance. Dress sharp, practice proper hygiene, be civilized. You don’t need a lot of money to do this, but you do need class and that is something money can’t buy!
I live the same way. Ignore them.
Invite them to your village and if they pitch in to donate, use those funds for a neighboring village
Do what makes you happy, as long it isn't detrimental to your loved ones.
What Apple said. Do what makes you happy, but don’t be “cheap” with how you carry yourself! Dress sharp, be clean, act with class and you’ll be perfect! Good luck man :)
Haha. Me too. But I don't really care what other people think.
Dress cheap but laundry often. Some coworkers’ jackets are stinky.. (due to rain)
I can relate to this. I make about 300k, wife about 140k, barring the rent (2k), we hardly spend any money. Used cars, no fancy vacations, restaurants etc. I do donate good chunks of money, although quite erratically. I just find this materialistic/consumerist culture pointless. You just need to ignore people who are not like you. Or you can flaunt your cheapness. Like when someone complements me on something, I brag about how I got it for cheap in a thrift store. No need to hide your true self. People telling you to dress sharp etc. have no clue how tech works (assuming you're in tech). e.g. I've worn a single jeans to work every single day for 4-5 months, washing it maybe 2-3 times. I don't think any one at work cares (atleast hasn't impacted my career so far)
You wore the same pair of jeans everyday washed your jeans only 2-3 times over the span of 4-5 months?
If you shower properly at least once daily jeans don't need to be washed that much.
How many YOE?
