Declined By VMware In Less Than An Hour After Applying

I applied for a role at VMware and in less than a hour received notification; not a "Thank You For Applying" notice, but they were pretty much telling me that I didn't fit their criteria they are looking for. What is their resume review process? Do they have someone sitting on the other end reviewing resumes as soon as they come in and comparing your experience to their job description? Or is it a Robo Responder? I wouldn't have applied if I didn't feel I met the qual. Seem so unfair, but it is what it is. Has anyone else experince this?

    • Some companies just post a listing online but it is an internal hire. For h1b purposes. Could be that case as well.

Some reqs are only open for "diverse and inclusive" candidates. Wonder if you are cisgender straight white male.

Trust me, plenty of "majority" people get hired, promoted, etc. There's a reason you're struggling 😂🤷‍♂️

Okay, for the slowpokes: your team needs more people but there's no budget - find a diverse and inclusive candidates and the company will pay for them. So other candidates gonna be rejected not because of who they are, but because budget shortage.

Something makes me think that you do not belong to this "majority", do you?

Somebody needs to go to one of the diversity pods meetings and get some education work on their bias

  • Lmao no one looked at your application don’t feel bad.

Go look up “applicant tracking system” that will take you down the rabbit hole of auto-reject systems and you’ll learn the scary truth about how unlikely it is hat your resume ever even gets seen by a human at most large companies.

Broast, auto extraction tool will probably extract white text into db. It will reappear when they view a rebuilt resume as just text for example.

Again, I would not have applied if I felt I didn't meet their requirements, and that includes education. Where I studied is irrelevant.

Funny how the same guys who flip out when they don't hear back from the recruiter after they have a phone screen days ago are the same guys complaining about automated responses.

Recruiters have dozens of jobs to handle, with sometimes over 100 candidates per opening. It's impossible to reach out to everyone, and some companies measure their metrics on the reach of every applicant. Too many applicants, too little resources, that's just how things are...

This is old news, but ALWAYS try to get to a hiring manager first. Doesn't matter what company. HR's job is to screen you out. HR Departments are now the eqivalent of Skynet - human decisions went out the door years ago.

Apply for similar role even if it is not in your location to see what happens. If you talk to the recruiter then ask about role in location.
My guess is the recruiter was screening and either the role is filled it or the req is on hold/closed.

I have a feeling if you're a bad fit or not qualified HR would reject you a few months later, not the day of application.
