Did I F up

So i was interviewing w Okta for an internship and was at the virtual final round stage which was split between 2 days. On the 2nd day (before the last interview of the final round) i got an offer from fb in the morning so i pretty much went to my okta recruiter and cancelled the last 30 mins cus i knew id take fb over okta. I told them id be interested in full time but FB has a great internship program thats hard to turn down, but long story short they didnt respond to my email and just sent a generic no-reply rejection. part of me thinks i shouldve just stopped being lazy and done the last 30 mins (since i already finished 2.5 hours of the final round the previous day). Did this burn any bridges? they seemed pretty cool and I would consider applying again for full time, but the no-reply rejection makes it seem like they were mad but i was just tryna save everyones time. Follow up: If i did F up, is it that bad? Is okta well regarded compared to FAANG and Unicorns?

It was a bad decision but unlikely fatal.

Learning incident for you. Got to be respectful and never burn bridges. The tech area is quite small.

Yeah I didn’t mean to be disrespectful just didn’t want to have to go home and get dressed for a video interview when I knew I wouldn’t take it. I told them I wish I would’ve known before any of the final rounds to save everyone’s time, but my decision happened to come later than anticipated

Don’t worry, you will be fine. Behavior from Okta is also poor.

nope. They should have appreciated your input

Yeah that’s what most companies did. Like msft said I can just go straight to onsite next year when I cancelled but the only difference is that I already did most the final round for Okta so I prob should’ve just stuck the last one out

Don’t worry. Just enjoy your FB internship. You did nothing wrong and saved their time. The recruiter is probably just being a sore loser.

Hmm I would have just done it. But you would be wasting their time since you wouldn't have accepted. They should appreciate it. I had an on-site with Amazon. I accepted a position before so I cancelled my on site. I never heard anything from them acknowledging my cancellation email. To me, that makes them look bad, not me.

Amazon is so scummy. I was offered a position there and I told them how I felt!

Yea, it made me not feel bad about turning it down. If not even one person in the 4 person email chain can respond with "ok no problem, thanks for letting us know" it really makes you feel they don't care. At least Uber asked why and said they understood and maybe in the future we could talk again.

You got offer from fb and then it followed up by a rejection email?

Amazon alehop Oct 27, 2019

Wtf is Okta?

Okta Lffo32 Oct 30, 2019

Okta UR here. You did not burn any bridges...happens all the time. Actually I think that it is better that you canceled rather than waste the interviewers time. Sorry I didn't send a personal e-mail...I've been on the road since beg. of Sept....and I have 2,500 applicants I am working with, so I am slammed. Apply next year for New Grad!

It’s not that much of a deal. Life is short. Enjoy your internship. Rule of thumb: if you feel you did something wrong, you probably did. Don’t dwell too much on your past or mistakes, just make sure you learn from them and move on.
