For diversity efforts in tech why do they want to match the racial percentages of the US population? Should'nt they instead strive to match the racial percentages of the global engineering population since that is the true population they're sampling from?
...especially since we outsource so much. We have the talent here, so why not exhaust our own resources first?
where is "here"???
should be representative of (potential) users
Oh yeah sewing machines should be made by tailors. LOL
No. That's the entire point.
To anyone who voted ".... US ...." you are xenophobia.
Shouldn’t we be trying to match something like black engineers: 60% to correct for past discrimination
Hire based on merit, but invest in diversity by encouraging those in an underrepresented group to enter the field.
diversity hiring is the stupidest endeavor. These shithead tech CEOs think they’re helping underrepresented candidates, yet all they do is make the truly technically gifted minority candidates doubt themselves and make whites/Asians pissed. I would love to see other industries implement these same backwards ass hiring practices: NBA must now have x% Indian players —- too many blacks! Waste management must have 50% female garbage collectors — to many men! Department Stores have too many gay men working there — replace them with heterosexuals!
No, people like YOU who go around loudly complaining how minorities have an unfair advantage getting hired isnwhat makes hen question themselves
So much this. When I see another employee of MSFT I should be able to know that they passed the same bar as everyone else. Now in the case of minorities, I can’t be sure of that. Lower standards for minorities only reinforces existing bias.
Questions are poorly crafted. There are just one group in IT, the East Indians. They are dominating group and diversify is about how to include other group of people.
I think they are trying to match % of engineering population...
Usually they try to match kids graduating college. So those who have the engr degree, which I think is fair.
Makes the most sense. Matching the us population would be difficult due to other issues in America.
