I got pip'd early this year on my 3rd team, fortunately survived it and switched team. I was super frustrated as I felt I wasted almost a year on my last team and my career (at least at amazon) was almost ruined. Everytime I recall the experience, I feel regretful, furious, and a few complex emotions. I was always trying to figure out what went wrong and could not find the anwser. Therefore I have been living with unpleasant memories even if I am doing good on my new team. I don't feel good at all after using up all my vacation and PTO to unwind myself. As of now, I feel I have 3 choices. 1. Stay on my current team. My new manager and teammates seem to be cool guys. I really adore one of my teammates' technical and communication skills and I feel I will learn a lot from him. I have a promo doc which is almost filled and the only gap is a design. My manager has got me a project which is very likely to help me fill the gap. 2. An offer from X with a SDE2 equivalent title. Almost the same salary as a result of AMZN stock appreciation. Green card process after 6 months and it is known to be super slow. 3. An offer from Y with SDE1 title. 10k less TC but I can start the green process once I join. Neither offer is FAANG. Thank you.
For 2, you can negotiating for day 1 process. It’s commonly granted.
I'd say stay and prove your self that be a strong SDE. No sense moving teams when you like them and you are content with TC.
Wait and prepare better. Go for higher TC.
So personally I don’t feel being in FAANG matters that much. However, we also don’t know what are those companies, that you have offer from, so it’s hard to give a direct answer. If it’s from Unicorns, I would definitely join. However remember one thing FAANG or non FAANG, unless you are working in a positive environment, you will feel frustrated. If I had same condition, I would have joined the company, if they were decent. For GC, either u start today or after 6 months or a year later, it doesn’t matter.
you’re cooked mate.
Wow, *you* create rockstars? If you haven’t done so already, be sure to put that on your resume and LinkedIn profile.
I would stay. Finding and good team and a proactive manager to set you up for promotion is rarer than people think. Why risk that for more unknowns and same or less TC?
Sorry, I’ve been seeing this word around a lot lately. What’s PIP?
Are you SDE1? How come you changed 3 teams? I am in the same position. Thinking to leave the company.
Wait for few months and try in FAANG again
