Do frontend devs get paid the big bucks at quant firms?

I’m gonna say no lol but doesnt hurt to ask 🤷‍♂️ I see several quant firms are hiring frontend devs to do stuff like data visualization / build web apps to support traders, do they get paid the same as a regular SWE would get paid? ie Citadel NXT UI Developer or Akuna Web Developer TC: 240k

Ask a simple question, get a simple answer: nope.

Yes, they do. However, from your definition of front end, maybe not. Front end is very broad

Salesforce ICML 2013 Nov 3, 2019

If you're talking about the devs that help develop data viz research tooling for quants, then maybe. But otherwise, not from what I've seen no. What front end devs are you thinking of?

Many devs labeled as front end also build out tools, frameworks, and infrastructure

JUUL usrname88 Nov 3, 2019

No. The quant $ is in data science and data engineering

Salesforce ICML 2013 Nov 3, 2019

Eh really only the data science, and even then you'd want to be closer to the research and strategy dev/implementation side of things. Pure data scientists and engineers are typically infra folks without much autonomy or discretion.

Perhaps this isn't too helpful, but I don't know. I'd guess many other commenters definitively responding "no" don't know either, as they probably don't even work in the industry. If you work on stuff like trading UIs, though (often C#) the answer is probably. Trading UIs are critical to trading.

Does akuna ask stats/math questions for Quant Dev onsite? Or just LC?

Akuna Capital reTRIEval Nov 3, 2019

Yes, expect math/stats/linalg along with LC and maybe system design

I guess it’s front-office not front-end
