I got an offer for 105k + stock gift from a large company in ad tech. I used that as a counter for another role and when asking about salary I was told any more than 110k they would have to request approval. I was offered 100k and options from a much smaller startup I really wanted to work for. Did I make a mistake by not asking? Granted I was stressed by holidays coming up and nobody being in while I was trying to negotiate. Any suggestions on how I should have navigated this, or how to better navigate in the future? First role I knew someone who worked there and recommended me. Second role I worked with a recruiter.
Startups have funding constraints so there are limits but if they raise funding ask for a raise, Everytime they raise get a raise and hopefully they don't dilute your shares but extended them.

They always will say they have to request approval. Say ok and they’ll raise the offer. If you say no it’s fine(and they really hope you say that) then you bombed the negotiation
