I wonder how many people in tech industry does that. Myself occasionally.
I used to donate to Wikimedia but they started burning money rather than creating an endowment fund. So I stopped. I donate to open source occasionally. I prefer donating only to projects that will efficiently use any money I donate.
I donated to Wikipedia once, I currently support multiple open source projects I love/use via patreon.
Been donating regularly to Wikipedia for many years, i learnt a lot of tech stuff from it too over the years. I think its a valuable resource
I have been donating to wikimedia for last 5 years. I feel it is useful and valuable resource they have on their platform.
Just donated $400 to Wikipedia.
Don’t think donating to Wikimedia is any good at this point. They have good cash reserves although they burn money on crap no one cares about. They have tons of cash to support the core functionality while letting the users contribute information. I feel they are deceiving people by asking them to donate with the fear that they can’t survive/will have to use ads. Do a bit of research on the internet and look at their financials/spending habits before you donate again. I stopped donating to Wikimedia now.
It’s Google’s money, not mine. They gave us the chance to donate $400 to any nonprofit organization and I couldn’t find a better option
