This is modem day slavery https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_the_21st_century what we go through is absolutely nothing compared to what kids and adults who are trafficked go through. If it's time for me to pack my bags, I will be happy to do it. BTW entitled people like you will be long gone before I have to leave. Being on H1b never hindered my career growth, if it does I know what to do.

Lol. I knew the entitlement here was high, but seriously? Comparing H1B to slavery? Such a brain dead out of touch comment.

@google, its not about entitlement but reality at most companies. I am not sure if this happens at Google. But happens at many companies for sure.

@Gigamon, the fact that your company takes advantage of H1b employees gives you the right call yourself a modern day slave? You are not a slave and you don't know what slavery is. Read the article @dropbox posted.

People on H1B tend to stick around. People who stick around tend to be underpaid...

Unless you count that h1bs generally don't jump so they end up underpaid.
Or that in many cases they have studied outside the US and given a lower offer, or have experience outside the US that is not considered

The ones from Netflix on that site are not “true” salaries. Look into their pay around 2015 on that site.

An important rule of negotiation is having a leverage. You don't have any leverage as H1B (cannot just walk away from the job). So it's no surprise you cannot negotiate as well as citizens.

This, a lot of h1b will be in a spot where they ‘have’ to accept a job or have their life upended. This greatly diminishes your ability to walk away/negotiate and offer properly. It is also more cost/headache to the employer to hire h1b, that money comes from somewhere...

It’s pretty easy to get multiple offers and have leverage. So it’s not really a problem for quality folks.

It would depend on the company and individual. Top companies don’t differentiate between h1 and non-h1 workers.

Depends on the company of course. No good company differentiate based on Visa, in fact they end up spending more on Visa holders if you consider attorney fee
