Hey everyone, So i have given a couple of onsite interviews since March of this year and have been strangely asked this question in both of them. ( One of the company is where I currently work) Even though both of them offered me the jobs , I dont understand the dynamics behind this question. Is it even legal? Some more context: I am Indian Male , and interviewers were white americans.
They’re busting your balls. Get good at saying yes
Wow
The important thing first is that what was your answer to both?
What companies? I think you’re trolling and this didn’t really happen.
Two Sigma asked me this (tbf the context was for moving from the bay to New York).
Not really. Both are manufacturing companies and one of them is Fortune 509 medical device company.
😏 Maybe they were interested?
Just tell the interviewer that you don’t “swing that way.”
“Yeah but your mom doesn’t like broadcasting it publicly” Establish dominance, take initiative
Or "yeah, but your mom and I were waiting for the right time to tell you."
Relationships are society’s litmus test to see whether you’re a weirdo or not. People with relationships are perceived (emphasis that society’s perception is very biased and unfair) to be normal and single people, especially men, are considered socially inept and weird.
Questions like this is a red flag. That means this company is desperate on hiring and they want you to move to their location and work for them for the rest of your life.
That looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
How is it a lawsuit. Is asking where are you from also a lawsuit? They're not making hiring decisions based on those answers. Might as well be a smalltalk .
Any company worth their salt will do interview training that covers what you can't use as small talk fodder, including things like "where are you from" or "do you have a girlfriend". Those questions open the company up to discrimination lawsuits if, for example, someone can prove that they only hire people from certain parts of the US or only hire people who are single.
