I made it through the engineering on site at google and was beginning the team matching phase when I was given an ultimatum from other companies. I went with the "bird in the hand" approach and figured I could always interview again with G. Was I about to receive an offer from them?
What did you go with?
If no team want you, it still fails
What happens when there is never a team matching? Do they let you start as a generalist for several months?
There is no such thing as generalist I believe. U cannot join until there is a team match
Previously yes. Not anymore though. Now experienced hires need team match unless in very niche domain where hiring is necessary. If you have experience with latest and greatest tech, team match shouldnโt be difficult. HC is harder to pass.
I have had atleast 3 of my friends fail at team matching. Team. Matching at G sucks. They put your resume in a pool of interview-qualified candidates and if any team picks your resume, there is a team matching interview. Else after a few months, it just expire and you have to start again if you want to join them.
Sounds like your friends lied to you ๐
They do put your resume in a pool. However there are several opportunities and managers will jump to interview anyone that has remote chance of fitting in well in their group.
Nope. You still have to find a team that wants you, then go through HC, then go through executive approval, then offer. At each step, thereโs a chance they reject you or ask you to do few more interviews.
I don't think they do team match without HC approval. HC approval is by far the most difficult hurdle.
For many candidates, they do team matching before HC nowadays. I still donโt know what the rule is exactly.
