A friend of mine recently cleared interviews for a PMTS position in OCI in the Bay Area. He already has a Google offer. Has anyone had a case where G matched or came close enough to match their OCI offer in the Bay Area? His G offer was 255k TC for an L4 also in the Bay Area. He hasn’t yet received numbers for his OCI offer.
YOE?
He has a PHD plus 4 years of experience.
It’s hard to say without knowing his OCI numbers; they will almost certainly be higher than 255k, and so G will likely come up a bit once he has a credible competing offer. That said, I suspect his OCI numbers will remain higher than his G offer even after that. PMTS is a wide band, and the middle to top end of it get paid like an L5 at G (at least in OCI. Apologies to my Oracle folks who aren’t in OCI.)
Any info what the middle to high band is? Is something like 350k in the middle or high for the Bay Area ?
True that. Like VMware asked, is 350k a top end offer at OCI? Or, can it go higher.
I’ve heard OCI IC4 can get up to $360k. The downside is, working at Oracle even in OCI can totally suck. It’s highly variable.
Google knows no one in their right mind will choose oracle over G.
When OCI is willing to pay you 100k+ more in TC, people tend to lose their minds.
It’s very short sighted though. Take Microsoft for example. If I go to Google for 2-3 year I can come back with a 2 level bump plus Microsoft will beat any competing offers when candidate comes from Google or Facebook. Long term that’s more money and a better resume.
They don't. Google didn't match a friend's OCI offer. He had a L4 from Google.
Google didn’t matched for me in Seattle. I had L4 and pmts offer. There was diff of about 30k/10%.
Did G at least increase the compensation numbers somewhat? So, the final G numbers were ~300k?
Yes they did increase from 265k to 300k (most of it was equity increase) + 30k signon. 155k base, 500k/4 equity, 15% bonus.
His OCI TC should be higher than that.
