I have an old car that I hardly ever use. It doesn’t start and I can’t be arsed to get it fixed. I’m thinking of donating it to charity. Has anyone done this? How did it work out?
I know that NPR takes it
Kars for Kids
I think the write off caps at $500. Not worth it financially, but that feel-good feeling is oh so sweet
I’ll come pick it up for free
Sell it to a student.
Did the same with my old car which was functional but needed a lot of fixes. Think of the person who actually will use the car that you can't be bothered to fix. It's worth it to donate just for his/her sake.
Super easy. They come pick it up on a tow truck and then you get a form in the mail for tax deduction.
What value do they use? KBB?
In our case it was a place that fixes up old cars and then sells them, so our donated amount was technically the cost of the car at sale. Not sure how it is at other places.
