I work at a silicon valley startup. The startup has been started 3 years before and still hasn't gone series a. I work as a data scientist in a team of 4. The work culture is too toxic with " fake it until you make it" policy of the CEO. He makes unrealistic promises to prospective clients and pressurizes the team to achieve it and treating everyone badly. The team is also toxic where one doesn't support another's ideas and keep arguing throughout the meetings. The CEO and the lead always pull us into status meetings which happens every 2 hours. On top of this, the CEO is asking the team to stay back and work late so that more work is done. I do eight hours a day and I get paid 80k though I have 5 years exp into analytics. I am still paying student loans and living on paycheck to paycheck. My total commute is like 3 hrs and I cannot afford to shift close to Atherton. How can I politely refuse to do beyond 8 hours a day? Any inputs could help.
Start interviewing, getting a job with double TC should not be hard. Tell them their work culture sucks during the exit interview. Problem solved.
Just quit and get a better job. 80k TC is pretty much poverty. Should not be hard finding something better.
GTFO of there
If you don’t want to work that much, someone else does. It is demand and supply. Do company a favor and leave. Your commute is not their problem. Please find a gig which aligns with your expectations
No one should be putting up with crap like that
“Do yourself a favor and leave” FTFY
I know why you’re still there. You think if you leave and they hit the big break with a whole lot of $$$ you will regret it but put yourself first man you gotta be happy and from what it sounds like you can get into any other company.
This sounds like a typical startup, I’m not sure what you’re complaining for. If you get a good cash out it’ll all be forgotten
Get the hell out of there dude, you deserve better
Indian startup, I can guarantee that. Right?
Sounds more korean
Generally, it is the Indians (who are now secured with Green Cards) that screw over other Indians on H1B. They try everything to screw H1B dependent Indians. Upon getting Green Card, Indians feel that only they should immigrate, not other Indians. Sick mentality.
Why complain or even bring it up. You’re not an indentured servant...just leave and find a new gig. You’re not going to single handily change the culture of the company, and why would you want to use the effort to do so even if you could? Just find a place where the work culture aligns with that of your own.
Said it better than I could
And where your TC matches your YOE. Jesus 80k for 5 YOE? Leave ASAP
