I'm a Principal Product Mgr at a non-tech public company in banking/insurance industry. What is better for long term career growth (into 40s & 50s)... A) Cracking & joining FANG, getting downleveled but TC upgraded or B) Joining a public company or late stage startup at a Group PM or Director level within my industry with a modest TC bump and more scope for impact? I can get referrals into both types of opportunities but need to decide where to focus. I'll really appreciate inputs from all Product peeps on here and specially those who made one choice over the other. Thanks! Happy 4th of July! 10 YOE, TC 210K, Bay area.

What does this even mean? Or did you butttype while watching the fireworks ;)
Product people...any thoughts or inputs?
I went non-tech non-PM (5 yrs) —> fintech PM —> FANG PM. Definitely FANG. Gives you future optionality to work on any consumer product vs just fin/insur/health tech. Way more personal and career growth if you’re not constrained by WLB.
Thanks for sharing your moves ninepm!
OP, what path did you end up deciding? I’m in a similar situation. I have a Faang IC offer in hand, but likely to be promoted to a director (inflated title) with reports in a tier 3-4 public tech company.
That’s low TC for 10 yoe. Joining FAANG is no brainer here
I know. It hurts like hell! Thanks to Blind...never knew what I was missing out on :0
