FB E5 vs Google L4
6yoe. FB offered E5 and Google downlevelled me to L4 (i interviewed for L5) Which one to choose? Career progression is important for which Facebook looks lucrative but good WLB is also a priority! For TC, Google is matching large percentage of FB's offer - so that is lesser of an issue. At Google, if I join, would want to get promoted sooner than later. How hard is it?

At google, promotions will definitely be hard to come by. Your decision will depend on how much exactly you value wlb vs career progression. For me it's simple, to give up wlb, I will need to see a significant difference in pay. Likewise you need to find that equation for yourself. And no one else can make that call for you.

G L4 to L5 is probably easier than FB L5 to L6
You are looking at this all wrong, if TC is almost the same go to the place you feel will help you grow your skills, promotion will come when you are at a good place that can get the most out of you.
Another thing to keep in mind: E5 refreshers will be way bigger than L4 refreshers. And because L4 is the terminal level, getting promoted to L5 is not a given even if you are performing at L5 for multiple years. On the other hand, expectations for E5 will be a lot higher, and FB is not shy about managing people out in under a year.
Is L4 the terminal level? I always thought it was L5 that was the terminal level?
Google promotes very slowly. Even when you expect promo, you’ll probably get it the cycle after.
