Currently L4, Phd+3yoe, TC 290k. HWE role and offer. Bay Area. Offered 155k base 165K stock/4 years 25k sign on After initial low ball of 145/130/0. I told them that is six figures lower than my current TC. Recruiter stresses it was a starting point and we can try to close the gap. I thought I aced the interviews but they won't give me IC5, saying I am a borderline case from 4-5. I told them I am willing to reinterview for IC5. This amount is half the equity compared to what I've seen here for FB SWEs. 35k stock bump from round 0 to 1 isn't encouraging and I wonder if a pay bump from current TC is even possible. Have another inbound offer from another big tech company (level / comp not decided yet, but expect IC5 equivalent). Thoughts on offer? How to play this? Wait for that one then ask to bump to IC5?
“HWE role and offer.” “The offer is half the equity compared to what I’ve seen here for FB SWE.” HWEs and SWEs don’t get paid the same.
Is this EE team within b8 by any chance? I got a strikingly similar offer from them, when my current Apple TC is ~280k, and have a ~300k offer from G. They didn't budge despite showing the G offer, so from my experience, I don't think they may give more even if you get a competing offer. I just walked away.
Seems in line with other HWE offers.
So I take it the chances that they match my current TC are slim/none if I stay at IC4. Possible to negotiate a level+comp bump / out of band RSU grant if competing offer is IC5 equivalent and much higher TC? Team sounds like they want me pretty badly but fairly happy here if I can't get at least equal TC or a level bump out of this.
Updated offer: 160k base 165k vesting over 4 years RSU 35k sign on Seems like we've topped out for now on RSU/base, recruiter mentioned hard to bump from there. Maybe sign on can go higher? SWE sign on can go to 100k but for HWE no idea. Still far off current TC, waiting on other offer now.
Any update?
What was the recruiter’s reasoning for you not being eligible for IC5?
Not sure about hwe comp but stock seems low for 3 yoe with phd
