Just wondering, can any FB mans (and women) explain their careers path after starting out as a new grad? I hear you have to reach E5 within a certain timeframe or you get fired which is kind of scary/daunting to me as I don’t think I’m that strong of a programmer. Btw I’ve interned in the past and received the meets expectation evaluation. What’s the timeline for your personal growth and how does bonus and refreshers as well as promos play into effect through each stage. Ideally I want to follow a plan that will not burn me out.
mans (and women)
E3 to E4 in 24 months is pretty easy and I don't think many people fail here. E4 to E5 in 33 months is harder but still doable. Your personality type also matters a lot. Someone like me who is not a natural at communication, always has (and shows) self-doubt, prefers to just code over human interaction, etc. will find it harder than the others since you're expected to have consistent team level impact (technical, people, and directional) at this level.
If it were a low number of people getting fired for failing to meet the promo deadline, Facebook would publish internal stats on promo velocity like Google does. It’s not, and they don’t.
You have 24 months to go from E3 to E4 and 33 months to go from E4 to E5. While it's not a walk in the park; it's doable for most people
I’m assuming that’s max allowed? What’s the typical progression though from E3->E4 and E4->E5?
Yeah that's the limit. I'm not sure about the average numbers
