Hi, Is there an effort from FB to cover up the recent employee suicide ? Amidst all the bragging related to the compensation , why the death of an employee is being brushed under the carpet ? Hope Mr Zuckerberg takes a serious look into this tragedy and FB comes up clean on this. PS: No intention to troll anyone. i repeat, highly respect the departed soul and no intention to troll.

Is the death being brushed under the carpet? I don’t see them ignoring any questions. They actually spoke to the press about it and put out a release. Are you talking about if they learned anything from the death to help avoid these issues in the future?
Yes, exactly, what steps r being taken , whats the guarantee that it wont happen again?
You’ll never be able to guarantee something like this. We also don’t know why they did it. It could be something completely non-work related. I think Facebook even asking the family feels weird.
https://afsp.org/does-the-way-media-reports-on-suicide-impact-rates-of-suicide/ Sometimes it is actually better to publicize it less. Too much coverage of suicides can lead to more.
Spot-on! But, I think, this 'Solution' by far doesn't decrease the chance of another such tragedy (Since it has no long term effect). Opinions?
Not at all. There are serious consequences to widely talking about suicides, look at what happened after Netflix released 13 Reasons Why. Internally everyone in the company knows about it and it’s really sad and it’s being taken seriously. Also, connecting depression with work so blindly and callously shows a poor understanding of what depression is really like, even if that was a stressor for him.
check where our CFO sits and notice that building 27 has 8 floors
So you want top 1% TC but not deal with Top 1% stress? Listen, you can’t have it both ways. If you can’t deal with the stress move on to another company. Sacrifice your comp. But kill yourselves? 🤦♀️
So, if compensation is directly proportional to stress, Mr Zuckerberg would have collapsed by now ?
Lmao. Stress is not correlated to tc. Jeff bezos has one of the most stress free lives with huge tc. Most rich people are actually extremely lazy. They just got lucky. It is fools like LlnR08 that think that life is fair and all the Poors just need to suck it up and stop being lazy. Cringe
What if u r not allowed to change teams even if you are willing to forfeit some part of compensation?
It’s at will employment. The company can do whatever it wants (short of discrimination) just like you and I can choose to walk. That’s it. If you don’t like it leave. As much as I dislike FB, even I can’t believe people would blame The company for this. The person was clearly ill.
And what if after resignation, the person for some reason doesn’t get another job in 60 days , go back to home country?
If there is nothing wrong with culture and its purely employees own problem, how often have you heard of a manager committing suicide ? Why only ICs ? Are all managers perfectly able to handle the stress ?
Would be interesting to see if the algos are suppressing this in their newsfeed.
