I'm L6@Uber. Finished FB interviews and am going to get an E6 offer. My feedback from the interviewers and referrals had been great. Recruiter is asking for my salary expectations. What numbers should I start with and any negotiation tips?
Tip #2: start with negotiation with level
Tip #3: show them what others on Blind have been offered
I wouldn’t focus on “salary”. Instead just all-in compensation including refreshers, bonus, 401k match, RSUs, base, etc. aim for 600k/yr and accept slightly less
220
I always let them make a first move and then counter by something higher than what I know they can offer. We usually land on the max of what they can do. For e6, that max would be around 600k/year (including sign on) for new hires.
Tip #0: Uber is a shit company.
Orthogonal question : What is your motivation to work ? I feel I will stop pushing myself after l5 I'm L4, 5 YOE , TC : 320
I have fun designing software. It hasn't staled yet. And the design and architectural discussions with smart folks are always entertaining.
Interview with Google and get a strong competing offer.
Tip #1 — Don’t make the first offer.
I disagree. I say to do your research (like this thread) to see what is possible but then to say the first number. All other negotiations will then center around that first number. If you say it, it will be high; if they say it, it will be low. This is from experience where I’ve done it both ways.
