Facebook DS Rejection after Onsite

Hey guys, Hoping to get some perspective on the rejection response for Data Scientist (Analytics) I received from the Facebook recruiter after the onsite. Based on my interview experience, I felt it went well in each of the rounds and in the recruiter’s email they stated that “the DS’s you met onsite were grateful for your visit, and they had a really positive impression of you and your enthusiasm for FB” But the recruiter also said this: “after discussion with the DS leadership, we’ve made the tough decision to move forward with other finalists whose overall balance of technical and analytical depth is a bit more strongly aligned with our business needs.” I’m not really sure how to interpret this – I’ve asked the recruiter for more details but haven’t gotten any replies after the rejection email. I was also told to apply again next year – based on what I’ve read here on Blind I’ve noticed some have been told to reapply in 6 months. Does this indicate that my interview performance was really that bad? Trying to piece together what went wrong and where I can improve but it’s difficult based on how it went and what the recruiter has said. Thanks everyone.

Just ignore what the recruiter said. Improve your skills and apply next year. Bottom line is you did not get the job. No one in US will give feedback on what went wrong.

I agree with what you're saying - the problem is that it's hard to figure out what to improve on given how it went and the recruiter's comments. Not sure how I'd prepare differently if I was to go again next year.

Not true. I got feedback from google about what they thought my weak areas were.

It sounds like you were up against some really strong competition. The “next year” part may reflect their estimated hiring needs for the future.

I see, that makes sense, thank you

Try giving interview for Adobe. Even if it’s not your dream company, they are very transparent so you will know what you are lacking in.

Thanks, hadn't considered Adobe before but will look to see what postings they have

Recruiters send standard, PC messages. "No hire" is what they mean. You need to move on. It would've been great to get honest, detailed feedback about your performance and reasons for their decision, but they will never give you that, for fear of lawsuits.

Makes sense, thanks for the response

Yep that was it

Deloitte CHng76 Apr 24, 2019

Did u hear back this morning? He has no news yet. The recruiter mentioned to get back within 3 to 4 days.

It is a new process. it seems there would be another team matching round after on-site. (Mainly landing a team instead of going through the boot camp.)
