Hey guys. Quick question here. My friend got an on-site with FB and did really well, then couple days later recruiter asked for recommendations from previous employer. He got rejected after this, even tho provided recommendation was good. I wonder what possibly could've gone wrong to him? I thought request for recommendations is a good sign
That’s interesting. I didn’t get asked for any references.
Neither do I
I didn’t think asking for references was a thing anymore.
I got an offer from FB recently and they did not check my references. Also it is really hard to find out the exact role and level you worked at. I obscured my title a bit on the resume and it didn't matter
What you are telling is typically covered under background checks. Most companies hire an external service prior to your joining to do that. Minor things like role are usually ignored for folks like us but are a bigger issue when hiring folks at higher title positions.
I am guessing you got a bad reference from somebody. When I was at FB Hiring committee rarely overturned hiring manager decision if there was one. If this was for the SWE org it could have been a mediocre interview performance and a mediocre reference. There are services that will call your references pretending to be a company and they will provide you with their responses. I highly recommend you do that.
Did he lie on his resume? Probably someone he worked with saw at FB and it caught up to him
I would assume it means his candidacy was good enough to take to committee, doesn’t mean they accept everyone who gets there.
