Facebook messenger "secret" messages

Can anyone from Facebook comment on how secure or truly private this feature is? Seems like a cool addon feature if it really isn't being monitored i some way...

well of course NSA must be monitoring everything.

Anyone from Boston Analytics care to chime in?

Someone said "secure"? 😂😆😁😉 People are the product. Social media websites thrive on your information why would they not sell it?

It depends on how secure you want it to be. "Secure" as in, FAANG-secure: they wouldn't let a human read it, but machines would scan and classify those messages and capture them in reports without your name in it. It's fuzzy whether your IP addresses or hashed IDs are personally identifiable information or not, so they might put all of them in one bucket. Never trust software engineers' word about security or quality until bugs exist in the world of software.

Man you really don't know what you're talking about

Oracle alwzangry Jul 8, 2019

Enlighten us and I'll ignore the news from the past 6 months+ about all the breaches.

If it's tincan you're talking about, it's secure, but WhatsApp has more eyes on it, so is probably a better choice. Or signal if you feel you need it

Yeah I'm not too concerned with the end-to-end just curious to know if there is any weird endpoint logging or w/e that could pickup the decrypted data

Unless one person writes the code and knows what s/he is doing, it's practically impossible to ensure this. End-to-end is the easier part, so I agree, not to worry about it. It's the metadata where the weaknesses lie.
