A facebook recruirer told me they are only hiring very senior devs right now. Is this true? I have 8 years of experience, including leading and mentoring. Doubt they have any gray haired engineers who would be willing to put up with their culture.
Grey hair here, we enjoy awesome cultures too ;)
How many grey hairs are there? :)
None. He is bald
Seniors means engineers with Facebook senior level of experience. They are not saying they only hire senior citizens. Not a reference to age. "To put up with their culture"? Is it that you don't want the job, or bitter about not having a job opening for you at the moment?
They specifically said years of experience. Facebook isn’t even in my top 20 choices, just casting a wide net. Facebook applications keep getting buggier by the day. You can thank their move fast, hire shit ton of college grads, and break things culture. More time is spent over-engineering crap to handle failure than building things the right way.
Years of experience is a prescreening filter for senior roles, but then it will look at the scope of work for the net impact. The way you talk about the company, I'm surprised you would even apply other than for practice. Why even post if you are not interested?
Wait I have fb onsite interview coming up with 2-3 yoe am I basically screwed
What location?
Not screwed. If you are going to onsite, it means you are further in the process than OP 🙂.
FB are definitely still hiring junior candidates in the Bay Area, as long as they have US work authorization. They will only get H1B visas for senior folks. Might have been the recruiter was trying to be nice, and picked up on something that you wouldn't be happy in FB.
No. I know a guy who had 2 YOE at crappy consulting firms that got E4
They stopped hiring e4 and below in the Menlo Park location. Senior is e5.
