Feeling underpaid (by Google standard), how do you tackle

Google superpower

By Google standard It mean how much others at Google getting paid.
130k base
160k stocks
25k sign on

This is after I told about the counter offer. And i thought this is a good TC for me.

But after checking out go/paycomparison feeling sad and unmotivated and thoughts of jump ship although Google is/was my dream company.

I don't see a clear path to reach high TC as the other who joined as L3 with 250k TC.

YOE 2 in India and 1 internship in US. MSCS in US.
Location Bay area Sunnyvale

      250k TC hmm
OP gets 40k for the stock. 25k for signing and let's say 30k for annual bonus.
      That makes 130+40+30+25. It's 225k TC...

Sign on isn’t counted towards tc. Also no way is he gana get 30k in annual bonus. Annual bonus is ~15%

Well most people do count signing bonus as TC that's why FB return intern TCs are quite high

Correct, we don’t count signing bonus. Also, annual bonus is most likely 15% especially for new grads. So OP’s annual TC is more like:

      $130,000 (base) + $19,500 (bonus) + $40,000 (GSUs) = $189,500.

They’re treated more or less like relocation bonuses. Both are not counted as part of TC as they’re one time payouts (this is the general consensus on this board)

You have no experience, why do you think you should be paid top dollar? Take the opportunity learn and grow and you will be making $300k in several years if you play smart. It’s good TC, much more than many people can dream of

    Just one thing to clarify.

I don't feel that this TC is less, but other people who have just completed Bachelors are getting paid more than I do when I have spent 2 years working and 2 years for masters, that indeed sound less lucrative.

This is a path to misery, just focus on making impact at Google and you'll be in a league of your own in no time

I bet plenty of people have a masters and 5+ years experience on you and are getting paid less. It all depends on your point of reference for comparison.

    • Where you graduated (which country and what school) matters.

Having a Master’s degree matters only slightly.

Your interview performance, any prior FAANG experience, and competing FAANG offers matter a lot.

A lot of times, the inflated FANG numbers we see here on Blind are when the person has all of the above factors going for them.

Your experience in India does not count as experience over here in the US. It's not the ideal truth but it is what it is. Instead of becoming sad, I would suggest that you quit comparing. In the long term, It doesn't matter weather you got to 250 2 years later.

I had 3 years of experience in India, then I did a masters, and I joined at a Tc of 170k. Got promoted for it to increase to 200k in one year. And then at the end of my second year, I got a job at a faang at 260k. Waiting to join them in a month.

jokingly, I would say get the fuck out, but stop letting blind's TC culture influence your thought.

you'll NEVER be happy if you always compare yourself against others. no matter how much you make, there will always be someone with a higher income than you.

moreover, you're pretty junior. focus on building a good foundation and get good experience for a few years. TC will come naturally.

  • Yeez, kids are so greedy nowadays. How can you feel underpaid with those numbers and the experience you have? If you’re good, you’ll get L4 in no time.
