Getting your foot in the door is always the hardest step. I decided to leave my sales & hospitality career behind and pursue that of a developer... Almost 8 months into my bootcamp training today and I couldn’t be any happier with my decision as truly feel like I’ve found my calling. I’m just about to start applying to jobs, however I’m lost in narrowing what industry to work in. I’m thinking I should aim for well established names - giving me the option to more easily move around if I were ever to leave (also because I don’t have any big recognizable names on my resume...) Sidenote - I’m in the final round for a bulge bracket fintech firm to join their summer analyst class but I’m not entirely wanting to to take the job if the offer is made... Things I 100% want in my new job: having a great mentor/manager that I can continue to learn from... Or professional development programs where I can continue growing. I believe pay will always be tied to my YOE, so as long as it’s competitive w/ market rate I’m ok with it. Anyone cares to share their thoughts/story on their first SWE job or provide specific suggestions for me? Especially career transitioners from bootcamps. Thanks for reading!
