I'm a self taught web dev/ bootcamp grad
YoE 1.5
TC: laid off

I'm on the LC grind -- I believe I am a strong candidate to pass a behavioral interview, but will I even get passed the screens#

You’re trying to go from tier-846393 to tier-1. Slightly unrealistic. I think it would be helpful if you aimed a bit lower and worked your way up. Just my opinion.

Sad if your goal is to get a Googler at least start small try to get a software dev job anywhere willing to give you the opportunity to learn. Stay with them for 2 years then start your process with google.

To be fair, Google is not tier-1.

Oh sweet! How many YoE or special projects? I used to mod startcraft maps as a kid so that's where my programming experience comes from before high School classes, had to drop out of college because of a kid but I am making the best of it

I really think it's possible for me to accomplish my goal of getting in. I know it might take more than 1 year or multiple failed attempts but it's all I've dreamed of since being a teen

Edit: I wish I would have gone to college but I was kicked out and resorted to the military

By the way what does URM mean to you? Am I at a disadvantage being a white male?

I know a white guy who dropped out of college, did a boot camp, joined a startup, got laid off from the startup after 1 year, then landed in Google. It’s possible.

Yes, you can get in without a degree if you have experience. "Self taught web Dev / bootcamp grad" alone doesn't tell us much. What's your professional experience? Any open source projects?

I was basically a consultant for the B2B side of the company, which I am in talks now of being picked back up by them.

I am a vet, 25 father of 2, troubled past but have since gotten help and am flourishing in life now. Google is my 5 year goal. For now I am just trying to better myself and my children until then.

Keep up with your ambition and don't worry about the naysayers, good luck. Keep the kids proud !

I'm a bootcamp grad who got into Google with about 1 YOE (also self taught, never took a CS course).

    Keep grinding that LC!

Getting that initial interview might be difficult. You'll likely need a referral.

How many LC did you do? Thanks for the Hope! BTW is there any opportunities on the East Coast besides NYC?

I did well over 1000 hours over the course of a few years (hard to say exact number of problems because I skipped between platforms). Maybe overkill, but I enjoyed it and was working only part time for a bit.

Find a referral. When you're ready you'll need that to get past the automatic screening.
