GitHub website says they're "committed to hiring more women and non-binary individuals". Does this mean they are using gender and gender identity to determine who gets hired? Isn't that completely illegal?
it means Github didn't believe women were as capable than men to do the job, now they are comited to also hire more women. How can you know the implications of the statement without knowing what rules they are applying?
It’s not necessary illegal. They could, for example, look into hiring from talent pools that have more women (for example, “Girls Who Code” organizations). So with more women going into the pipeline, you have more women hires, without lowering the hiring standards.
Because women are underrepresented in the workplace. That’s the reason. If Github had a lot more women, then yes, it would be unfair. But I suspect it does not, particularly in engineering.
The lowering the hiring standards is a crock of shit. If your exec and HR are breathing down your neck trying to get you to hire womxn then you will inevitably lower hiring standards to get them off your back I’ve seen it happen time and time again. Red flags are ignored for minority candidates in favor of boosting diversity numbers
It means they think that previously they didn’t give women and non-binary candidates enough attention; that men had an unfair advantage in the past. They are trying to level the playing field, not swing it to discriminate against men. Nice poll options 🙄
That’s a nice opinion you have there. I doubt you would be a good fit there anyway; I think they are doing you a favor. Edit: OP deleted his comments here 😂
He has a tendency to do that lol
Make a hard copy of this thread to attach to the description of "privilege" on the dictionary
Are you implying women and non-binary aren't hard working people?
OP being ignorant has nothing to do with this post: I really hate these companies that say "we are committed to hiring veterans" when 1) all that means is they don't actually actively discriminate against hiring veterans because that would be illegal 2) when they do hire one they get added to the percentage statistic that is posted on vets.companyurl.com right under that line about being committed 3) if a veteran actually needs a job they can get in the application pool with everyone else. I'm sure github is doing the same thing with they/them/their
Hey bud, what happened to your libtard post? 😹
Giving his propensity to write shit and delete, I'd say he doxed himself...
Such an angry little guy. Pity.
Your two poll options set up a straw man argument
I think the results of the poll speak for themselves despite some comments from the usual “libt@rd” suspects.
So can I claim to be a woman and scream “that’s offensive!” to anyone that denies my right to be a woman?
Shhh 🤫 you’re giving away the secret defense if anyone calls you sexist or misogynistic. Because gender is merely a social construct that’s fluid according to the lunatics on the left, you just change your gender any time it’s convenient and speak with authority or claim victimhood. ...or to compete in women’s sports because you’re unremarkable when competing with other men.
It’s not illegal if you’re discriminating against white men
Also discrimination against Asian men is perfectly OK.
Except if you are Palantir lol
