Is there good coffee here? I'm finding Yelp completely useless in this city. I went to one 4.5 stars cafe, and they even used Caffe Umbria beans, but it was more of a sandwich shop, and the coffee was awful. Had bad coffee at another well-rated cafe. How do you find good coffee here in the city?
Loads. Haus on 24th, grand cafe on mission, mazarine on market, sight glass, any blue bottle. Searching espresso is a better way to filter (unless you're a drip coffee person in which case Philz all the way). Also you can kind of tell looking at the visual style of the place... good coffee is a relatively newer phenomenon here.
I like both. I usually go for drip if I'm skeptical of their espresso drinks.
Try Blue Bottle coffee. I have never had better.
Contraband.
Philz, Blue Bottle, Sight Glass are all good
My personal favorite is this place called the temporium on 22nd Street near Guerrero it's very small though, so not a good place to work. Four barrel is really good, but super pretentious, ritual coffee roasters is also good. Also the coffee shop inside Yelp hq is one of the best in the city.
I havent found a better place than Philz. Sight glass is okay. Blue bottle is a total white people overrated kind of thing !
Philz
Sightglass coffee
+1 to Sightglass. Also Reverie.
Also Four Barrel. Ritual. "Coffee in SF" or "third wave coffee in SF" on Foursquare shows good ones. Philz is good but different (and kinda slow and packed). The app Work Hard Anywhere has a nice collection of good coffee shops around the city.
