Microsoft has the highest TC? Huh must be a new grad offer because if it's an industry hire, Amazon would beat out Microsoft at every level

Sorry OP, the grammar made me skim through some things so I missed it. But still my bad for skimming

SLU/Seattle is much nicer than Redmond to work at. Unless you like soulless suburbs

AWS is just massive so it's really hard to tell what the work will be like without knowing the team. Even then it's not my org so I can't speak much to that. But they get the cool buildings :P

If you take the Microsoft one and reinterview with Amazon after a year I'm sure you can get $170k+ for SDE1. If you reinterview after three years for SDE2, you can make way more than if you took Amazon and jumped to MSFT. But also, Google and Facebook pay for more SDE2 so if you did amazon for SDE1 then jumped to google/Facebook for SDE2 your comp is looking good.

Do you know the teams? Maybe this could be a choice of whatever team you think you could grow the most with

Microsoft beats Amazon easily from New grad offer. It's ridiculous that @1270 didn't account Microsoft's annual perf cash bonus in his tc calc (Amazon doesn't have one). Also, Microsoft benefits exceed Amazon in ~10k per year in value. although Amazon has better location Redmond commute is not bad and all considered you work less at Microsoft that compensates that anyhow. Only real downside for Microsoft is tc progression as you level up.

@Brazuka thank you for your insights. I am yet to decide on these offers.
But I want to add something. Microsoft is not consistent with it's new grad offers. People who post their new grad MS comp as 110/50/150 or 120 are either return intern or have competing offers which is not the case mostly. Two of my friends received MS new grad offer as 110k base, 15k sign on, 70k stocks despite rocking the interviews. There are really few cases in which comp is revised in favour of candidates.
On the other hand amzn is very consistent. Most of the offers now are 112k, 64k sign on, 80k stocks. I was a good performer during my internship at AWS, thus was able to negotiate but it's really rare. Therefore, in general both Amazon and Microsoft have more or less same new grad offers.

We have perf stock not cash, why would you include one and not the other? And yeah the new grad offers can be higher but that's about it.

And sure if you have a family and a ton of kids, $10k isn't quite the value of the benefits but okay. And WLB is team dependent.

Simple, perf stock is not counted on initial tc since it's not vested in the same year it's granted. Also Amazon doesn't have any perf stock for the first year and you know it

Eng residency is L2? Also when you convert to full time you always get the lowest offer?

Assuming we have a bad brand name, are you planning on trying to work on improving it if you come here or is it just about tc? If it's just tc, gtfo - we dont need more jackasses like you.

Lots of my new grad friends join msft because of the outstanding new grad offer. Why brand bothers you? All three jobs will open you opportunities to interview with any tech company on the planet when you want to move in the future

  • I am curious, considering he got these offers, why didn't he just apply for the new grad role @ Google instead of the eng residency?
