Left Google for 3 years to try out a startup but looking for a change again. Got offers for Google L6 EM and FB M1 both in Seattle. Comp is the same for both 200k/800k/50k. Teams are Google Cloud and FB Infra. Not sure which one to pick. Any advice? Which one would you choose?
L6 is where it gets pretty tough to move up if that's your goal. I'd still say Google. But keep in mind the current climate around FB when you get answers
FB is super undervalued now, given it’s still extremely profitable and suffered from the media BS like Uber last year. Seems like now is the best time to join imo. Well, rather next month or Jan, to get the average stock price of the previous month. You can always join G later and stay there forever if you don’t like FB. Btw, I’m a xoogler.
Go to fb, stock will eventually shoot up
FB infra >> Google cloud.
Financially, I’d much rather own Fb stock than google, so to me that 800k fb > 800k google
You'd not be saying that had you got your stock right before the fall.
If you already been at Google before, what makes you hesistent to rejoin when offer is the same?
Unsure about growth potential at both places. I have a good idea of difficulty and impact needed to get from L6 to L7 but not from M1 to M2. Also heard some bad stories about WLB at FB but heard that aggressiveness helps you advance your career faster.
Aggressive how?
If it’s an M1 at FB, it means you already have a team. So, then the next step will be to expand that team in delivering something big and impactful. To move from L6 to L7, I do not know how challenging it is
Naive q: is 800K the stock per year?
Which one did you pick? I am in the same boat, and I am trying to figure out the workload / expectations difference between Meta and Google. When people say Meta is more intense and high demanding, what at Google makes it less demanding or better? Thanks.
FB will have more growth opportunities for M1 , it’s hard to move up in Google given how mature the company is today.
