I had my google onsite today. Out of the 5 interviews, I didn't do well on one of them. I just hit a mental block and found it difficult to make progress. However, the other 4 interviews (2 coding and 2 system design), I feel extremely positive about. I was able to solve the other coding questions bug-free and was able to go in depth on the system design ones too. Maybe, this question has been asked several times... But how would my chances look like if the actual feedback turns out as I am expecting ? EDIT: So the hiring committee came back asking for 2 additional coding rounds, because they felt that I wasn’t tested enough on data structures and algorithms. I did the 2 additional over the phone, instead of doing them onsite. Both of my interviews went really well and the hiring committee recommended me for a hire. After this everything moved really fast and I received and accepted the offer in less than a week. The team match was done in parallel. I think you have a good shot. Try and keep calm and keep your head up.
Better to have 4 great interviews and one bad one than to have 5 mediocre ones. I had a similar thing and still got hired.
That’s good to hear :) Was preparing for this interview for quite sometime. So hoping it would payoff.
What does it look like? the great interview. Is that a perfect solution you come up with without making any mistake and impress interviewer and they start seeing you in awe?
Good luck and keep us updated
How did you prepare for System Design? Was it for large scale applications?
For me it is was more of OS type system design questions, because I was interviewing for the platforms team that works on low level software for GCP
How do you interview for a specific team at google? I thought it is generic SWE interview for all.
Good luck man, hope you get it
Reject
If the one is a strong no you won't make it
Your comment did not age well
If any of the 5 went really well, you have a good shot.
Which level?
Op how do you think you did the interviews ? What was the format ? Algo in 4 and system design in 1 , was it trees and graphs , DP ?
Cant go into specifics... But you usually get to choose the mix. My recruiter got 3 coding + 2 system design setup for me I had an option to do 4 coding + 1 system design too I didn’t encounter graphs, probably because it was for a low level sw role.
#fail
Did you experience something similar ?
No, I’m actually teasing. Its honestly luck of the draw. I hope you get in, but it’s hard to say if you’re going to get in based on your impression on how it went.
