In blind, google wins every poll hands down. I have seen cases where Google TC is very low compared to other offers but people vote for google. Is google that good place to work or is this a representation of google population on blind TC 185K
Tc is not everything, google has great benefits and free food, plus having that on your resume opens a lot of new doors for some ppl. All of this is not said in the comp package.
I understand that but for a person who pulled of significantly higher TC without having google on his/her resume, do you think having google on the resume makes a significant difference
I’d say that having Google on your resume means you have to put less effort to get at opportunities.
I would go back to Microsoft if they give me 20% more than Google, including refreshers. Google brand has value and working at Google has been a real privilege. But it doesn’t justify leaving lots of money on the table. If Snap, Lyft, Uber or any other company offers me a good TC bump then I would leave G immediately
TC isn't everything. Happiness at a workplace is highly underrated. But if you are happy at work and enjoy what you do, you never have to "work" another day. If you look at previous posts related to what makes Google great, you will see a lot of googlers saying "TC isn't everything." I read that phrase from googlers a lot more than other employees, and people who haven't worked at Google dismiss it and don't know what they're talking about. They just think googlers drink too much kool aid. You don't know until you experience it I guess. Don't get me wrong though. Not all googlers feel this way, and some are unhappy or think it's not much different from other companies. Before working at Google, I always went after the company that paid more. But after being here, I have changed my mind. Google, although going downhill, treats employees really well. All the benefits, perks, swag, transparency, fairness, events, and everything they do for the employees makes me feel really valued and happy despite the fact that everything added up is not crazy amount of monetary value. Psychological happiness and safety, and feeling appreciated goes a long ways. I have such an ideal situation currently that even though I know I can get paid more elsewhere, I don't look elsewhere. I'm just super happy. With that being said, Microsoft is another really awesome place for SWEs. But I would need to get paid at least 50% more to even consider a place like Amazon or Facebook.
Google used to set the top of market, what do you think are the reasons for the shift? Just no need since people are still lining up to work there?
I think high demand of people wanting to work at Google is one reason. Google is also trying to cut costs everywhere trying to please the shareholders a little bit more nowadays. I also have a theory that I think Google is realizing they were being too excessive in comp, benefits, and perks where their ROI for the incremental dollar per employee was really low. At a certain point investing more on an employee does not make sense. As an extreme example, you wouldn't give every employee a private jet. They're trying to find a better balance perhaps. Amazon is a very successful company and they spend a lot less per employee.
Its just Blind bias. Google is chosen by default
