Google: bay area to Chicago

Anybody moved from bay area to a place like Chicago while working for Google? I am interested in knowing if such a move changes (reduces) your salary (basic or bonus or stocks) because you are moving from a place with "high cost of living" to lower?

You might want to edit this post because it’s one big piece of mumbo jumbo and it’s tough to know what exactly you are asking because it runs together and is littered with grammatical errors. Chicago is cheaper than Bay area. TC, like every other place, depends on role and YOE.

Yes it does. Had a friend move from Cali to Austin and his salary got reduced as a result.

Can you share the TC before and after?

They have a formula for relocations i think. Of course you will get less tc if you move to an lcol.. otherwise everyone will just start in MTV and move to bangladesh or something lol

Thanks. Do you know specific TC numbers from any case?

No just search the pay on levels fyi for the two places you wanna move from / to. Should be similar..

Salary and bonus go to market rate. You keep any GSU grants, but refreshers are calculated at new location rate.

Go to market rate? So does that mean you need competing offers to get a good one?

I have not done it personally so I can't say for sure, but I'm not aware of any negotiation as part of the relocation.
