Apparently a Google PM interview question: how many dolphins are there in the oceans? Curious to see how people break this down and tackle it.
Come on, it’s a classic PM (and dev, in the old days) interview question. Use some information you know (for example, how many Orca whales live in the Pacific Northwest - a few dozens) and extrapolate to the areas you don’t know anything about (dolphins relative to Orcas, habitable waters, etc.)
Google don’t ask such question anymore.
Wrong
I got one last year.
It’s a simply market sizing. It’s all about logic.
Whatever the ocean dictates
Questions like this are easy 1. Create some formula you can justify is correct 2. Fill in the variables 3. Solve for x
What is a good answer to this question?
4
2 or 288 are the only right answers.
A bunch.
Some good input here. Also agree that without base knowledge it's pretty useless to come up with a formula but the thought process is very important...
When you don’t have an answer, ask clarifying questions? All oceans? Do you want a sum or broken down by ocean? Living dolphins only?
Unless you believe in ghosts then you should watch animal documentaries...no dolphins buried in the seabed, all become dinner
Pull out your phone and Google it.
