Is it a description of what "googley" means? https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2018/03/google-turned-a-blind-eye-to-toxic-bro-culture-lawsuit-says/?amp=1
> she returned from a break to find a male co-worker "on all fours, underneath her desk." He reportedly jumped up and said "you'll never know what I was doing." The next day ... WTF don’t leave us hanging. What was his shitty excuse for that or was it an IT person doing his job adjusting cables or whatever. If it was a juicy detail for the complaint I felt like it would have been included. Anyways these are just allegations. If it’s true I hope she’s able to prove it without hardship.
The lack of details kind of make it sound like something more innocuous, like running a network cable.
But-but conservative bros on Blind told me that Google’s business model is social justice, not profits! Maybe someone will write a memo arguing that women might be genetically predisposed to not liking environments where their humanity and worth is disregarded and they are treated like crap. Oh those irrational women. Seriously though, this is an industry-wide problem that will only get worse from bro-backlash if the majority of employees stay quiet or on the fence about it.
Sure I agree. However, in my work area I have observed nothing at all remotely like this. Not even close. So, yeah, I'm not staying quiet about anything.
Yeah, not directed at anyone specifically. Not trying to shame anyone individually — just generally want higher standards for what employees should expect in terms of pay transparency and a workplace where people aren’t made uncomfortable, harassed or dehumanized.
Read the filing, this is no Uber issue. The big difference is that these are line employees doing the harassing rather than the executive staff, and HR wasn't complicit in the violations. In fact it looks to be quite the opposite. According to the filing her managers and HR tried to get her to file a complaint so they could do he right thing, but the plaintiff refused for fear of being labeled an informant. In fact she got written up for /not/ filing a sexual harassment incident. I have no knowledge of the allegations beyond what is in the filings, but this is no Uber moment.
I agree. Still this has potential of generating quite a bit of noise. I surely hope Google handles this well.
But they fired her...
I find it hard to believe what she claimed given my 2 years of experience so far at Google.
Salesforce just hasn’t had its covers lifted yet, don’t worry, yours will come too
As if your title isn’t an attack on Uber employees, get off your high horse
Less abrasive way to say that: harassment happens everywhere, uber, google, sales force, you name it. It’s all about having the right policies to punish offenders.
