Joined Google in 2012 on H1B - I was leaving a failed startup making shitty salary. The $110k Google offered looked good compared to what I made before so I didn't negotiate. 10 years experience before Google total. It took almost 6 years to get to $170k with multiple promos. Recently, I found out that people on my team same level and less experience were making $220k+ base and double my RSU package. What the fuck??? My performance was always exceeding or minimum meets expectations so it's not like I didn't deliver. Managers at Google always made it sound like I should be grateful that I was getting salary increases and promos. I fucking quit - these lying bastards took advantage of me. This ain't right - no evil my ass.
Assume that any large corporation is basically f***g you in the a*s, that's why you need to go out there and get some offers to validate your current market value. When I gave Google my notice, they offered me a $800K retention bonus to match my other offers. They offered that because they knew that was my true market value and wanted to keep me. Despite their generous offer, I told them to go F themselves and that they should have been willing to pay that without me getting other offers. Loyalty gets you nothing.
Employers are all the same. Apple did the same to me but at least the stock went up while I was there.
The only person you should be mad at here is yourself. This is how US companies work - if you’re willing to work for less, why pay you more? If you had a problem with being underpaid you would have ready left. All companies are exactly the same.
Not just US it's the same all over the world. Business is about profit/loss.
Didn’t want to paint everything with a broad brush. Plus in my home country everyone is screwed equally, so you’d get same shit pay no matter how good you are. Lol. At least in US there is a way to make more $$ if you know how to market yourself.
I am glad you realized atleast now
That is why I interview around yearly. Employers aren't going to look out for any of us. Good luck 🍀
This is pretty basic knowledge but 16 years is better than never. Just move on. Hate the game, not the player
You screwed yourself.
So witty, non-obvious, creative, and insightful. Did you consult a promo committee to come up with that? Shit, I should go back to Google to work with wise ass people like you
You’re right. Sorry. But everyone here is saying the same thing. That said it’s hard to believe you were that underpaid relative to peers at your level since comp is mostly taken care of by models as far as I️ know. In any case seems like the right time to leave.
did u finish 700 leetcode questions?
This guy gets it, lmao. I'm sure FANG leetcode will soon become the most popular meme here.
if you accepted a lowball offer, your comp can’t get up again
So why don't you have an @google blind account?
😂😂
Point 👌🏼
