Google comp (after negotiation): - 116k base - 130k stock - 50k signing - 15% bonus FB comp (after negotiation): - 110k base - 150k stock - 100k signing - 10% bonus Which is better for me in terms of jump starting my career?
Are you sure Google's bonus is 15% for L3?
Get to L5 at Facebook and then come to Google!
Facebook enforces an up or out policy, so you will either hit E5 in 5 years or get fired. At Google, L4 is the terminal level, and it is also not uncommon to see engineers stuck at L3 for over 5 years. Did you intern at both Facebook and Google?
yes I interned at both. so pick fb for growth and google for a more relaxed culture?
Definitely Fb if u want growth. The time limit is 24 months to E4 and 33 additional months to E5, so 4.75 years total to become senior.
FB. Been at both. For a SWE, WLB took a real big hit but learning and growth as an engineer has been a clear win for me at FB. Can’t stress the sacrifice of WLB enough but if you’ve interned at Google, you’ve been exposed to G’s design reviews and testing workflows, which are two of the few areas where Google probably offers more to learn for an individual engineer imo.
FB
Why do you say that?
More fun, good sign up bonus, more growth opportunities
