Planning to move Europe (Ireland specifically) for a change. What would a typical L5 comp in Google or Facebook in Dublin be? Info in glassdoor et al is so scarce for Europe.
Half you current salary
Less than half for a friend that moved to London. Probably even less for Dublin. Basically you are better off working here for a year and just chilling in Europe for the next 3 years
Sadly, programmer salaries in Europe can't be compared to US in general.
Get 4 full years GSU refresh in Bay Area and then transfer to Dublin :)
Definitely. Having worked in Google in EU and now in US, I can confirm stock refreshes in Europe are nowhere near to US'. Banking those gsu's is the best you can do.
Lots of internal complaints about Ireland compensation being low.
Same at FB
Wow!! Half/less than half the US comp?! I understand the difference in cost of living between the Seattle/bay area and Europe, but this is very disappointing!
Wait till you hear about comp in Asia
So for 250-350k for L5s in the US, I should expect around 125-175k in Europe?
EU top companies are paying new grads 50 - 70k and 70 - 90k for L4. So I doubt if they would pay 175k for L5. The market is very different there. Data source from a friend in London.
Is that base pay or TC?
Base is almost the same with TC because RSU is only a small fraction of packages in most EU companies. Google and FB might have better RSU than other companies in EU, but most companies don’t offer much and some only offer cash.
Companies always pay market salary. Your dollars, or euros for that matter, goes a long way in Europe. Consider paying €800 for a comparable accommodation that you would say 3200 in Bay area
Lol 800? How about 1700 pounds for a studio size of your closet? Don’t forget dinosaur taxes and higher than Bay Area cost of living
Much less in EU. Has more to do with market (of swe) than cost. Most people are willing to work there for lot less comp (and their bar is not low, more on that in a bit). Also in Dublin you’ll have lot more vacations, benefits, paid timeoffs, gov/social allowances per kid, much less stress (people consider it rude if you ask them work question after hours or god forbid in the weekends), and so on. About the bar: Some people may not agree, but the bar of entrance is usually higher there. I often get startled when I see interview questions asked by colleagues, who relocate from there (or from India). We are not allowed to ask that kind of hard questions here in the US ;)
Must be nice to get away from the crazy Bay Area real estate market 😀
