Got in a minor car accident and hit a cars bumper. Which is the best option?

I hit a newish Kia optimas bumper. I’m 23 so my premiums are definitely gonna skyrocket. Would it be cheaper to reach out to the person and offer to cover the cost of repair so it doesnt go through insurance? Im unsure of the cost to repair a bumper.

Ask them to get a quote. If it's not outrageous pay out of pocket.

If the police gave me a ticket, would insurance still end up knowing about it?

They will. But generally (emphasis on generally) they don't care as long as they don't have to shell out money. On the other hand they also don't care who's fault it is if they DO have to shell out money.

Depends on their car.

Someone hit my bumper recently (I drive a German brand compact SUV). Total cost for repairing my bumper + giving me a rental car was above $4000. You probably will want to get the insurance involved.

Cheapest option is to not hit others peoples stuff with your stuff.

Yeah u tell them GM like they did it on purpose 🙄

Someone hit my bumper, it damaged all the sensors in the bumper ( camera, proximity sensors) and total cost was over $7K coz it was not done perfectly the first time

Never make an insurance claim for anything under 20k. Just fix it

Lmao

What's so funny? Very serious. Pay the deductible and be paying higher rates for years is your solution?

Get insurance involved; if your driving record is clean until now, you might get accident forgiveness

Check the accident forgiveness policy, it may require a certain # of years of being with the company before it kicks in.

If they or you already contacted insurance it is too late

Tell them to get an estimate and if it's too much for out of pocket, you can have your insurance cover it. Damaged plastic bumpers are usually at least $1500 $2000 to remove, repair, and replace.
