Going onsite for pm interview and want to know what the culture is like? Been hard to figure reading Glassdoor. What’s the PM style like?
Everything is politics, so for a PM it may fit you. You won't build a long lasting career here, but people are nice. Bonus hiring points if you're Indian... You won't be pressured since everybody's projects are very successful (don't understand how our shares are shit with so much win) and PMs are never to blame when things go south...
Are you being sarcastic.?
Half sarcasm half truth, won't tell which is which.
Haha !!
I've heard from people that were interns that they were encouraged by some people to not return because it was a dying company. Red flag IMO
Is that for the PM org? I can't imagine such an advice for the engineering org. We are an excellent engineering team!
Honestly it comes down to one idea: do you really give a shit? If not, you’ll have a lot better time hiding in some massive company where your work won’t really “matter.” You can just take up space and collect your check and complain that someone else is making $5k more than you even though you can’t see the difference in your work with theirs. But if you truly give a shit, if you actually care about helping local businesses grow, if you actually want to see how good your work could be, Groupon is a hell of a place to work. Besides, the stock price is super undervalued. You think GAAF are undervalued? Think they could double in the next 12-18 months?
I agree with the potential for impact. We have a lot of freedom to act. Stock price doesn't matter since we are in the post IPO phase and we don't dole out much stock. It's easy for someone to buy equivalent amount of stock in the open market if they consider Groupon to be a good long term bet.
I would say on the culture, it's very work life balance and remote friendly. People are generally nice and still generally smart, but the engineering teams are being pushed towards being understaffed for cost cutting, so getting projects prioritized is hard.
Groupon has a lot of friendly and passionate people, but there is a problem of resources. They want to achieve a lot but not enough people. It’s a good company to be able to own big challenges but sometimes can be challenging when a project involves 5 different teams.
Also FYI they just changed from quarterly vesting to yearly. It's a shit move to save money and not industry standard.
It is a dead company
