H1 to F1 conversion through consulate approval

I am going to be out of status in some time. I want to move to F1 visa after traveling to home country. What are the possible problems that I can face when I go for an F1 visa interview? Most importantly what are the chances of me being questioned about maintenance of status (pay stubs) during H1?

Is your i140 approved?

Just remember that H1 is immigrant visa and F1 is non immigrant visa. So prepare for those questions

H1 is non immigrant visa too.

Nope. H1 is dual intent.

No i140 is not approved. And I have checked H1 is supposed to be dual intent visa.

Good decision! How old are you ? Did you come to US directly on an H1 ?

You should leave BEFORE you get out of status. If you’re overstay your status, you may have E-Verify issues in the future (and most/all tech companies are E-Verify). As long as you do not overstay the 60-day period after you leave your job (or after your final date on the H-1B), there is no problem and it will not be held against you. Remember, your employer would have reported your last date of employment to USCIS already, as they are required to. Good luck!
