Had a nervous breakdown at work today

I think it's what you call it. Tried to stop crying for 30 min. They're piling so much stuff on us. I want to leave but I promised I would finish the project I'm working on. Some of them are good people, just short staffed. Want to finish this project and not burn any bridges.

Sorry to hear that. I don't have any recommendations, but feel free to share whatever you want to share with the community if it seems helpful.

Work is not worth crying over or getting depressed over or killing yourself like that poor Facebook soul. Take a deep breath, go home, and forget about it. If they are piling on too much work it means there’s a problem with the company. It’s not well run. GTFO. Start leetcoding tomorrow and don’t do any work and respond to recruiters. If you are too overwhelmed go drinking with your coworkers

I second this. Proper teams / companies will respect work life balance and scale resources appropriately or accept the deadlines you set based on normal 40 hr work weeks.

A year from now nothing that you are doing will even matter. Take a deep breath and start looking for jobs! Watch some short easy-to-follow TV shows to relax.

No, I'm an American citizen. I want to finish this project because I owe people.

Estimate how much work is left if you were working normal hours, multiply it by 3, and tell them fuck off it's going to take that long.

Are you in healthcare or related field where your work directly affects people dying if you dont deliver your work? If so, then yeah theres alot of pressure. Otherwise, just do your best. If something drops, it's the fault of the managers and company for not staffing and managing properly. If they pile all that work on your team, and you can handle it, its telling management they were right to pile all that on.. maybe do some push back and not always say yes. Or say yes with "but", and cut scope on the project. Hope these practical tips can help you avoid breakdowns in future

Had an anxiety attack once. Thought it was a stroke. Fucked me up pretty bad. Scared the shit of me. Then moved on and got promoted. Growing pains.
