I'm a new grad and wondering what health tips fellow engineers are practicing for physical and mentally sound health and to keep up the focus. My 10 cents. 1. Using posture corrector belt to avoid back ache 2. Standing and working a while 3. Moving away from the desk once every hour
Remember to get your gym time in. It helps a lot
Sleep. Exercise. Eat correctly. Floss.
Having sex 3-4 times a week helps. It's a good exercise and helps your mental well-being.
Exercise regularly (cardio and lifting). Eat healthy. Make more of an effort to socialize and make friends. Get some hobbies (preferably not involving the computer). Don’t lose confidence in yourself when you struggle or don’t know something. Develop good financial habits while you’re young.
Agreed with everything
Eat healthy and don’t eat too much.
The belt will make you loose muscle cause it tries to replace yours. Sit on a ball instead and work out, sth like martial arts. And do mindfulness training. Don't forget to nourish more social and artsy aspects in life - techies tend to forget and undervalue these aspects.
Take vacations!
Buy an ergonomic mouse and a decent tactile feedback keyboard. Mac keyboards, especially on the new laptops, are shit and will kill your hands and fingers. Take vacations, as the above commenter suggested. Make a targeted effort to find friends outside of the tech circle. Make as many friends as you can and invest in those relationships. Friend supply dwindles after 30s drastically as people get busy and drift apart. Building a support network now is integral for future emotional well being
Working for a good manager and with a good project/product management team.
