I have been recruited by a couple talent agencies, Aquent and Cambay, for a short gig (3-5 months) at Apple and Facebook, both for a similar position. From what I understand the talent agency will pay me but I will be working onsite. Any one have experience working for those talent agencies or any other agencies?
Not a good solution. They take a large cut. While it may get you in the door, your take home will remain below market rate due to their margin in perpetuity
They take a large cut of your hourly rate, but they can get you a job faster (sometimes). They also may provide health benefits and PTO. It is a great way to experience different companies and cultures without making the commitment.
Would it make it easier to get a job full time job at the company after the contract gig is over?
In my experience, yes. Because you will have proven yourself. However, one time I was no able to accept an offer because there was a “no direct-hire” clause in my contract that I had overlooked
You mean contract? I heard it’s a good way to get in and get experience, get references and here it’s good cause the internal process is diff for hiring than if you apply externally.
Would you say that people being hired contract aren’t held to the same standards as a regular candidate?
Honestly, getting a contract job here is harder than contract places most elsewhere, so if you get in you’re still going to have to put in work. And then you have others vouching for you, so I’d say no. They’re not.
