Hbo max takes Friends πŸ‘« off Netflix 😳😳😳

Just read that Friends probably one of the most popular shows on Netflix will be exclusively streamed on HBO’s new service. Is this the beginning of the end for Netflix? https://variety.com/2019/digital/news/warnermedia-hbo-max-friends-exclusive-streaming-1203262335/

Netflix: "WE WERE ON A BREAK"

Shitty show anyway

LinkedIn Kwofjrjw Jul 9, 2019

Perhaps, but Friends still makes $1 billion a year for WB from syndication. There are a lot of people that still watch it.

Microsoft Dr. Root Jul 9, 2019

Butthurt because it takes Joey 1 week to earn your whole years salary right?

Netflix LoveDeathR Jul 9, 2019

People who want to watch it have watched it. How many will join HBO max for friends? That's the question you want to ask.

Facebook BlahBlah25 Jan 14, 2020

Especially when it comes on TV every day on two channels.

HBO's streaming tech is buggy and has poorly designed UX. I'll stick with the other 3 streaming services that don't suck

I've always thought Netflix gets by largely by "nostalgia". The Office, Friends, arrested developement, etc are a lot of shows younger people watched growing up. Even Stranger Things (and Ozark to a lesser effect) take advantage of this by invoking feelings of speilberg (or breaking bad). That all being said, there's some good original shit of netflix. It got all it's users from shows it's now lost/losing, the question is if they can keep everyone around with originals

Our data says we'll do just fine.

Netflix dunkan Jul 10, 2019

Can you spare me from articles with subjects like that and calm the FUCK down. What’s wrong with you

HBO QgWN71 Jul 10, 2019

Right! They act like friends is the show keeping Netflix alive. Pretty damn great original content coming out at Netflix right now. Wish I could say the same for HBO.

Netflix Nqac32 Jul 10, 2019

HBO's got some great stuff too. It's just hard to live up to the expectation that GoT has set.

Sirius XM Yndnd Jul 10, 2019

Every superfan of Friends bought all the seasons on DVD years ago and only watches them on streaming so they don’t have to get off the couch to put in the disc anyway. Seems like HBO offering new content compelling enough for someone to switch streaming platforms or add another platform is going to be the adoption driver, not adding old reruns.

Netflix Nqac32 Jul 10, 2019

Pivot!

Spotify smrtrchild Jul 10, 2019

Imo this content pulling by hopeful Netflix competitors is too late. A few years ago losing friends and the office would have caused a huge shock to the Netflix subscriber base. But now, Netflix has enough original content to survive networks pulling their shows and continue thriving. Like needing a Kleenex or Googling something, Netflix has become synonomous with video streaming. Nobody is trying to HBO MAX and chill.

HBO VLRG70 Jul 10, 2019

"HBO MAX and chill" is what we call going to work

It's not the first time Netflix loses some of its most watched titles. Most people don't sign up for the service because it offers Friends. They sign up for a service that allows them to cheaply and reliably stream video, then they find out it has Friends and end up watching it. The important thing is to have a catalog big enough and varied enough that subscribers always find something to watch. If it's not Friends, it can be something else in the same genre that is equally liked.
