I'm a fresh grad from India (21 yrs) I got an offer from Rippling India, they are paying around 28L base (some stocks), its the highest that I've tried as a fresher. The employees there are extremely smart- Ex Googlers, Ex Amazonians, ACM ICPC finalists, etc., And about myself, my friends do call me smart and all that but I haven't really won any international competitions. I'm just worried that I won't be able to catch up, its not the learning skills that I'm afraid of (maybe a little). But, my attitude , what if I come out reserved or not friendly which would eventually lead to not upgrading my skills. I'm pretty punny and popular with lame jokes among my close friends, which sometimes leads to not taken seriously. So, can't really just be myselfđ Any idea on how to start your professional career? Or what is a good way to move in the such a fast-paced start up?
1) never argue, disagree, misunderstand at work. Take what comes. You don't need to be the comedy central in the team, just don't be the odd one out. 2) do your part to be in the good books of everyone and everything. This applies through out your career.
Not being odd is a great tactic but it is hard to implement if youâre actually weird person. Itâs just very hard to hide it.
Well yeah. That's there. In university atleast, my friends didn't take me seriously when I talked about coding until I won a local contest. How does that work in office? Like, giving presentations? Asking doubts?
Very soon you will realize most people around you feel the same way as you do and most of your colleagues (atleast the tech ppl) are no different than you. You will learn to deal with it, you cleared the interview means you have basic skills you need to perform at job. There will be ramp up time and learning curve, won't be expected to be a superstar from day one. Don't worry too much, you will do fine.
Good to know that few feel the same too. Thanks for that :)
If you are a true introvert, pick up âQuiet, The Power of Introverts in a World That Canât Stop Talkingâ by Susan Cain.
I definitely think I'm, until I get comfortable with few atleast. Thank you:) It helps!
Fresher is such a strange term.
Yea, just like how Americans call bread a biscuit. Stop being a language police. Blind has people from different parts of the world that may not speak like you.
I didn't say it was good/bad. đ¤ˇ
Shyness is s disorder, donât conflate it with introvert personality which is not s disorder. If you truly are shy then it needs to be addressed. Lookup so Stanfordâs prof zimbardoâs book âshynessâ it may help with understanding of the impact of shyness. You may need a psychiatrist to help you with treatment
Really đ Being shy is a disorder? I disagree with you.
You disagree with Zimbardo, heâs a psychologist not me.
Put in the hours, no shortcuts. Work hard. You will do well.
Okay, That's true too
Stop being a goofball and cut the lame jokes. Be serious and watch people respect you
Yeah, I really want to. Maybe not like "respect", just nice conversative work environment.
But yeah I'm going to cut out lame jokes
Also, you'll need years of therapy or lots of good drugs to fix this damages
why do you think I'm earning?
Hey, So which office you at?
What you are feeling is called the imposter syndrome. If you are feeling this itâs a good thing. If want to grow as a person and in your career you need to be challenged. If the job felt easy before you even started then you will get bored quickly. And donât worry about trying to be someone else for others. As you feel comfortable at your new job you will naturally be yourself. The best thing you can do when you start is ask for advice. If you work with goodwill people they will want to help and get to know you.
That's true and is being a little reserved as a fresher fine? I've seen freshers being very active. What do you think of university grads, when they are reserved? I'm afraid of being judged and not becoming close to my team mates and missing out on the friendly relations that get built up.
