Goal: Make it into big N. I applied and got rejected by everyone without even an online screening. So I recognise my resume is trash, and I need to be at a place where I can learn & grow alot as a software engineer for the next 6-12 months. Plan to reapply to big N in the fall. My offers (both in Chicago, with 1 YOE): 95k, large bank enterprise Java work. No 401k contribution allowed for 1 year. 81k, tech consulting. Full stack web development & dev ops. 401k contribution can start immediately, no match until 1 year. I would max out 401k contributions at this company even with no match. My friend at this company also gets alot of recruiters from big N hitting him up on LinkedIn, so I know at least I would get an online screening at big N with this company. Thoughts? TC: 65k (don't laugh :( )
I doubt these workplaces would help you grow. Take a summer off, apply to open source programs like Google summer of code, where you get a good mentor, get to showcase your work in the open and then spend a couple of months leetcoding. Open source makes up for bad resume often. Come back to thank me when you easily hit the $150k
I was making the same 65k tc like you as fresh grad and now at 150k base. So don’t worry... people who laugh at you are troll. I am sure both of us will get into FAANG one day!
Were all gonna make it brah
Faang is not last truth of tech career, remember
OP - you can still contribute to open source while having a full time job. Usually GSoC won’t count for work experience in most companies where as real world work experience puts food on your table as well as gives you a chance to rise and shine in your organisation. I wouldn’t recommend quitting job and doing this. Most people (including me) started at no name companies and eventually worked our way up while doing meaningful projects and leetcode on the side. Here’s what worked for me - I started at a no name company, went to a startup that was listed on crunchbase but was still meh, then made my way to Oracle and then Apple. If your resume is bad, have patience and climb up the ladder strategically. I’d take the second job and negotiate further on the salary. Tell them something on the lines of how you would love to work there but money is equally important and slide in the counter offer
Make the 81k match 95k then ask 95k to give u 401k marching?
Company B offered 75k. I asked them to do better and they came back with 81 so I think that's as far as they're willing to go, unfortunately.
Did you show them your other offer? Cuz if you didn’t, they are just shooting in the dark
