Has anyone been in this situation? I had recently applied to a role at a company and the hiring manager reached out to my current teammate or colleague and asked for feedback at the start of the interview. Is that a redflag signal at my current company since my colleague already asked me if I am looking to switch? Need some advise.
This is beyond fucked up. Were you in the room too??
No it was just a personal chat with my teammate and he said that he got a text from the manager whom he knew.
Ask him who did he get text from? Match it to see if it is from HM. He is just fielding, trying to get info out of you.

Asians - what are your thoughts on asian female white male ?
That’s really f*cked up. If you were trying to keep your search confidential, they basically just put your current job in jeopardy and compromised your situation. Wow. This is one of those unwritten rules 99% of people know not to break.
I was keeping it confidential tbh. Although it was just a one to one chat with my teammate asking how is it going and are you planning to switch? Since the hiring manager texted him asking about me. Although I shrugged off saying that this was probably one of the applications from long ago. He said you can trust me, which I am not confident about. I feel he wont disclose this info to anyone but I am worried.
I’m at a lost for how to deal in this situation. I have never had this happen. If it were me, I’d ramp up my search and find something. Once I secured another role, I’d make a point to let that shady HM know how I felt about this situation. I’d also ensure his boss and their HR exec were made aware. You don’t do shit like that to candidates. Even if they were to make an offer to you, it would be hard to trust this person would be fair seeing that they’re so bold (and immature) to expose you at your current job. S/he could easily continue to hold that over you. You might also consider making your current job confidential and only revealing in person at which point you can stress that your search is not to be shared. You’re right to be alarmed and disappointed.
